Mammoet drives expansion with huge Manitowoc order

Worldwide crane and transport specialist Mammoet has placed an order for multiple all-terrain cranes and crawler cranes from Manitowoc. The company announced the €60 million (US$ 90 million) crane order at CONEXPO 2008 which took place March 11 – 15 in Las Vegas, U.S.A. Mammoet said the order is the largest it has ever placed with a single manufacturer and forms a central part of the major expansion plan currently underway at the company.

Frans Vanwinkel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Manitowoc in EMEA, said the size of the order was exceptional.
“Our relationship with Mammoet has always been good, but the size of this order is new territory for both of us,” he said. “Everybody knows Mammoet’s reputation for engineering excellence so we are delighted the company has selected Manitowoc for this important stage in their growth program.”
The order includes a range of Grove all-terrain cranes. The crawler cranes from Manitowoc include Model 16000 and Model 21000 units.

Jan van Seumeran Jr, chief technical officer at Mammoet, said the order will significantly enhance the company’s global expansion plans.

“We are looking to expand our operations on a worldwide basis, so CONEXPO was a good opportunity to announce a major crane order,” he said. “North America is a very important market to Mammoet and we are looking to develop it further.”

Mammoet is headquartered in Schiedam, The Netherlands but has global operations including a sizable North American operation. It entered the U.S. market in 1989 and today runs offices in New Iberia, La., Atlanta, Ga., and Houston, Texas. Mammoet established offices in Canada in 1998 and today has facilities in 11 locations across the country.
