Manitowoc’s facility in Niella Tanaro, Italy has begun production of the newest Grove rough-terrain crane, the RT530E-2. The crane made its first public appearance at the SAIE 2007 exhibition in Bologna, Italy, this October.

The crane has a maximum capacity of 30 t and a four-section 29 m boom. There is a 13.7 m off-settable telescopic swing-away extension which allows tip height to extend to 44.5 m. Alternatively, there is a 7.9 m fixed swing-away extension which allows tip height to extend to 38.9 m.

Frans Vanwinkel, vice president of sales and marketing for Manitowoc Crane Group in EMEA, said demand for rough-terrain cranes in the region is increasing.

“The demand for rough-terrain cranes has risen steadily in Europe over the past two years and in Italy that popularity is equally strong,” he said. “Our rough-terrain crane factory in Italy is now in its second year of production and we are excited about the potential for this latest model from the plant.”

The RT530E-2 has a number of features attractive to customers including: a 3.8 t counterweight; quick-reeve boom point; and all-steel cab. The new crane also offers simplified service with easier-access maintenance points.

Power for the crane comes from a six-cylinder 119 kW Cummins QSB 6.7L diesel which offers a maximum torque of 732 Nm at 1500 rpm. The maximum line pull is 5280 kg while the maximum single-line speed is 136 m/min. The crane operates with 16 mm wire rope.

Neil Hollingshead, Manitowoc’s global product manager for rough-terrain cranes and all-terrain cranes, said the Grove RT530E-2 shows that Manitowoc is totally committed to regional product development and support.

“With the RT530E-2 we are continuing our commitment to our rough-terrain customers in EMEA,” he said. “We have a strong production team at Niella Tanaro and we can also rely on the support of colleagues at our Shady Grove facility in the US. We are offering industry-leading designs that are locally manufactured and are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the market.”

Manitowoc is committed to innovation in all aspects of its cranes, including operator comfort. The all-steel cab on the RT530E-2 has a deluxe seat with armrest-mounted electric dual axis-controllers. Other features include a hot water heater, circulating air fan, sliding side and rear windows, and a sliding skylight with electric wiper and sunscreen.
