Manitowoc debuts the Model 14000

Shady Grove, Pa. – The Manitowoc Crane Group is offering a new Manitowoc, the Model 14000, a 200 t (220 USt) capacity crawler crane. Manitowoc unveiled its plans for the crane at a gathering of dealers and customers at MCG’s manufacturing facility in Shady Grove.

Manitowoc said it has already received several dozen orders for the new crane.

The crane offers a maximum of 86 m (282 ft) of boom and a maximum luffing jib of 113.8 m (373 ft). The Model 14000 is powered by a 253 kW (340 hp) Cummins QSL 8.9 l engine. Line pull on the main drum is 140 kN (31 500 lbs).

Al Kadow, product marketing manager for Manitowoc Cranes, said in part the Model 14000 is being positioned as a suitable alternative for the Model 4100W, a popular mechanical (230 USt) crane and one of Manitowoc’s most-defining models.

“The Model 4100W was a powerful, reliable crane that was popular with owners, operators, and contractors alike,” Kadow said. “We are positioning the 14000 to be a suitable alternative as companies begin replacing these older units.”

Like many other Manitowoc crawler cranes, the 14000 will feature the company’s Can-Bus with EPIC control system. Besides enabling smooth and easy operation, this system allows the management of six independent closed-loop hydraulic circuits. This ensures that the system will run at maximum efficiency while lifting, Kadow said. Also contributing to ease-of-operation is the 14000’s state-of-the-art Vision Cab, which provides greater visibility and more ergonomic placement of joystick controls. MCG’s patented FACT connection technology is standard on the 14000.

Kadow said that although the Model 14000 shares much common ground with its predecessor, it is unique in its own right.

“The Model 14000 is a fully hydraulic crawler crane of modern design whereas the Model 4100W was one of the stalwarts of our traditional crane line, but they share many of the same characteristics,” he said. “They will also share much of the same client base. Customers for the Model 14000 will be contractors working in virtually all types of applications – commercial construction, bridge building, tunneling work, fabrication yards, petrochemical plants, etc. The Model 14000 is a good, solid all-round crane.”

Deliveries of the 14000 will begin in early 2007.
