The GMK4100 (GMK4115 in the US) has a rating of 100 t (115 USt). One of the highlights of the crane is its new operator cab, which boasts a modern design based around functionality, ergonomics, and comfort. In addition, the crane incorporates an impressive array of other high quality features. The GMK4100 offers a 52 m (170 ft) six-section boom with MEGAFORM shaping for greater rigidity and TWIN-LOCK pinning system for a lighter design. A 10 – 17 m (33 – 56 ft) bi-fold swingaway jib is available, while two additional 5 m (16 ft) inserts further boost jib length. A maximum tip height of 82 m (269 ft) is achievable with the jib attached and, as with all Grove all-terrains, the jib is able to hydraulically luff under load. The main boom has a telescoping time of less than 420 seconds. The carrier’s drive is 8x6x8 as standard including independent rear and crab steering, powered by a 295 kW (390 hp) Mercedes Benz engine. A Mercedes transmission provides 16 forward and two reverse gears, combined with a 2 stage transfer case. On the superstructure power comes from a four-stroke, direct fuel injection Mercedes-Benz OM 904 LA diesel engine, which offers a power rating of 110 kW (147.5 hp). The GMK4100 can travel below 12 t (13.2 USt) per axle when carrying 6.3 t (6.9 USt) of counterweight, together with the bi-fold swingaway jib, a 16 t (17.6 USt) hook block, and riding on 16.00 R25 tires. In other configurations, the crane can accommodate up to a maximum of 26.1 t (28.8 USt) of counterweight. In addition to the standard GMK4100, there is a long-boom version available, the GMK4100-L. As well as offering all of the same features as the standard model, this version offers an impressive 60 m (197 ft) seven-section main boom. Michael Preikschas, global product manager for Grove’s all-terrain cranes, said the new crane, complete with its new cab, was a testament to the continued engineering innovation at the company. “The customer voice remains the driving force behind product design,” Preikschas said. “We have listened hard to what our customers want and the result is an industry-leading crane with a brand new design, both inside and out. The high-quality specification for this cab is unrivalled in the market and its design reflects the fact that Grove remains at the forefront of the mobile crane business.” New features on the cab include a panoramic windscreen, which gives excellent all-round visibility and rear-view heated mirrors with curved shaping. The instrument dials are fitted inside a dazzle-free dashboard, perfectly located and clearly readable. The new cab also makes use of Grove’s ECOS electronic control system. Carrier settings, such as suspension, differentials, steering and level can be easily adjusted using the state-of-the-art ECOS panel, and operators can easily monitor oil and water temperature, engine speed, and fuel and battery levels, using this unique system.
