Manitowoc Crane CARE, Manitowoc Crane Group’s customer support brand, is currently providing a variety of training courses with its Mobile Training Unit in Shandong Province, eastern China. The MTU is a standard 13 m (44 ft) shipping container, with a host of MCG software housed inside including EPIC and CAN-BUS systems for Manitowoc crawler cranes; PAT systems for Grove rough-terrain cranes; EKS/ECOS control software for Grove all-terrain cranes; and hydraulic and electronic component maintenance simulation software.

The MTU is currently on-site at the Sinopec 10 location. Sinopec 10 is a subsidiary of Chinese petrochemical giant, Sinopec, and is a regional Manitowoc Crane CARE dealer. The company also took delivery of a Manitowoc Model 21000 – the largest Manitowoc crawler crane in China – earlier this year.

So far, 43 crane technicians have signed up for classes. In addition to Sinopec employees, staff from three other Chinese Manitowoc Crane CARE dealers ¬– Harbin Ruida, Nanjing Qiangyuan and Beijing Newchoice – plus personnel from Manitowoc Crane CARE’s China office are also participating. Several levels of training are offered, including an advanced program.

H G Kim, Manitowoc Crane CARE’s Asia/Pacific training manager, said the MTU offered customers the opportunity to better train their staff without the cost and time sacrifices associated with off-site training.

“The MTU allows us to bring our training courses to our customers, and enables them to offer better operators, engineers, and technicians to their customers,” he said. “Our customers can benefit from quality training courses by utilizing the MTU, but avoid the cost and time involved in sending personnel to dedicated MCG facilities.”

Sinopec 10 is a leading industrial construction enterprise, which specializes in the construction of petrochemical plants. It is also involved in equipment rigging, welding, and machinery installation. The MTU is scheduled to remain with Sinopec until later this month.
