Potain Unveils New Igo Models at Intermat

A Potain Igo self erecting crane.

Potain exhibited three self-erecting cranes from its Igo range at Intermat 2006, including the new Igo 11 and Igo 22 both of which were shown for the first time since entering full series production. Also on show was an Igo 50, the largest crane in the Igo range. Additionally, Potain showcased the new Dialog Wind Igo and Top Zone options.

First of the new units, the Igo 22, is offered with either a 26 m (85 ft) or 28 m (92 ft) jib. The Igo 22 has a 1.8 t (2 USt) maximum capacity. The 26 m (85 ft) version has a maximum capacity of 1 t (1.1 USt) at its maximum radius. The 28 m (92 ft) version has maximum capacity of 850 kg (1875 lb) at its maximum radius. The Igo 22 distinguishes itself from competitors as the only crane in its class powered by 230 V single-phase or 400 V electricity supply as standard.

As with other cranes in the Igo range, the new Igo 22 features Potain’s LVF Optima frequency-controlled hoisting, which offers exceptional speeds and increased productivity on site. Trolleying and slewing also benefit from variable frequency controls, giving the Igo 22 a smooth and silent drive.

Site safety remains a priority and the Igo 22 has four indicators (that monitor radius, height, load, and moment) located on the transmitter box. All of the crane’s mechanisms are located at chest height and a scrolling menu on the remote control receiver allows excellent visibility of crane controls.

The second new Igo model is the Igo 11, which has a maximum capacity of 1.3 t (1.4 USt) and a jib of 18 m (59 ft). It can lift up to 650 kg (1433 lb) at its jib end and has a 16 m (52 ft) height under hook. As with the Igo 22 and other Igo cranes, the Igo 11 features an LVF Optima hoisting winch with a low creep speed for precise load positioning and excellent high winch speeds when lifting loads of up to 500 kg (1100 lb) or with an empty hook. It also offers reduced electricity consumption, particularly when operating from a 230 V single-phase supply.

The unit is easy to transport, either on a trailer or on its transport axles, and offers good ground clearance for ease of getting on and off site. Other features include a compact footprint and tight slewing radius, making it an ideal machine for jobs such as building or renovation work in historic towns where access and operating areas are often limited.

In addition to the new cranes, Potain also highlighted its latest driving aids – Dialog Wind Igo and Top Zone – both of which are available on all models in the Igo range from the Igo 12 and above. The Dialog Wind Igo, which monitors wind speeds, sounds a pre-alarm if speeds increase above 50 km/h (31 mph) and a fixed alarm when speeds exceed 72 km/h (48 mph). The second feature, Top Zone, is an option which enables the radio remote control to define and use a simple zone limitation system in order to take into account certain over-flying restrictions, for example roads, schools, railway lines etc.
