Grove shows RT made at new Italian facility

A Grove RT530E is manufactured at the Manitowoc Crane Group facility in Niella Tanaro, Italy.

Grove used Intermat 2006 to showcase its rough-terrain crane products now being built at the Manitowoc Crane Group facility in Niella Tanaro, Italy. On display at the event was a 30 t (30 USt) capacity RT530E built in Italy. Production at the new facility, situated in northwest Italy, close to Turin, began in August 2005 and since then Grove has shipped RTs to customers throughout Europe.

Philippe Cohet, executive vice president of Manitowoc Crane Group in EMEA, said the new production plant has got off to a solid start.

“Since opening in August, the Grove production line has been going strong and the response from markets across EMEA has been excellent,” he said. “Grove’s reputation for strong, hard working, reliable rough-terrain cranes is globally acknowledged, but we have found renewed interest in the EMEA region thanks to our ability to offer a more ‘local’ service. This is another example of Manitowoc Crane Group responding directly to the needs of the market and the market is responding by giving even greater support to our company and our products.”

The plant at Niella Tanaro employs about 30 people and is currently building RT530E rough-terrain cranes. There are plans to add other rough-terrain models to the factory’s product offering in the coming months and to begin assembly work of some of the smaller Grove GMK all-terrains.

The RT530E has a 30 t (30 USt) maximum capacity and a full power boom, which can extend to 29 m (95 ft). The crane offers a maximum tip height with full boom of 31.2 m (102 ft), as well as a 7.9 m (26 ft) swingaway or a 7.9 – 13.7 m (26 – 45 ft) telescopic swingaway.
