Grove displayed three new all-terrain cranes at Intermat 2006, unveiling the GMK2035E, GMK4080-1, and GMK5220. Grove manufactures the GMK2035E at the Manitowoc Crane Group facility in Niella Tanaro, Italy and the others at the production facility in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Largest of the new models is the GMK5220, the GMK5275 in the US. The five-axle crane has a capacity rating of 220 t (or 275 USt) and a 68 m (223 ft) main boom. It has one of the strongest lifting charts of five-axle cranes in the market with a 14 t (15.4 USt) capacity on its fully-extended boom. The GMK5220’s excellent capacity is the result of the newly enhanced MEGAFORM boom profile and further engineering design improvements. The new design features a stronger, lighter carrier incorporating a new hydraulic-electronic steering system. This new “steer by wire” system also reduces tire wear and improves drive quality. When combined with the powerful 420 kW (563 hp) Mercedes engine and Allison transmission, the GMK5220 offers the strongest and best performing carrier in its class. New in the four-axle category is the GMK4080-1, the GMK4100 in the US. The crane has an 80 t capacity rating (or 100 USt) and a six-section 51 m (167 ft) main boom. It lifts 6.6 t (7.3 USt) at its maximum boom point of 51 m (167 ft) and out to a radius of 20 m (65.6 ft). Additional equipment includes a multi-function remote-control which allows the user to operate the outriggers and swingaway jib from the safest and most convenient position outside of the cab. The third new AT is the GMK2035E, an updated version of the company’s popular 35 t (35 USt) GMK2035. Like its predecessor, the GMK2035E has the same 35 t (35 USt) maximum capacity rating and 29 m (95 ft) main boom. However, the GMK2035E makes use of rigid axles with hydrogas, and offers an optional manually offset jib (in addition to the hydraulic luffing jib which is available as an option on both models). Elsewhere, the crane boasts all the features Grove customers have come to expect including the ECOS electronic control system and EKS 5 Light load monitoring system.
