Potain supplies first self-erecting cranes to Chile

Potain Igo 21

The first self-erecting tower cranes in Chile have recently been supplied to Potain dealer, ETAC. The Santiago-based company has added Potain Igo 21 models, a product which boasts a maximum radius of 26 m (85 ft), to its rental fleet.

The first project for the new cranes has been a job site in Curico, a city located some 200 km (125 mi) from Santiago. ETAC supplied one of its new Igo 21 models to contracting company Empresa Constructora COEX Ltda to help construct a new school. The crane will remain on site for five months in total, picking and placing moldings, structural steel, and concrete.

Empresa Constructora is putting the crane to good use by having it lift loads from 600 kg (1,325 lb) to its maximum capacity of 1,800 kg (3,970 lb). It is working at heights up to 18 m (60 ft), combining performance with superior up-an-over reach that extends across the entire job site.

ETAC is pleased with its new acquisitions. Julio Nazer Val, commercial manager, said he prefers the crane’s design. “The crane slewing mechanism is located at the base for ease of maintenance. We also like the way the Igo 21 can easily be repositioned without having to remove the ballast.”

Specifications of the Potain Igo 21 include a maximum load at jib nose of 700 kg (1,543 lb) and a maximum hook height of 19.3 m (63 ft). The crane features Potain’s proprietary LVF hoist technology and can be adapted to work from either a 230 V or 400 V electricity supply.

This feature allows the crane to work in environmentally sensitive areas where noise is an issue. The Igo 21, like its Potain self-erecting counterparts, can be operated remotely by an operator enhancing safety and making it easier to operate.
