National reaffirms its market-leading position with three cranes on show at
CONEXPO 2005
 |
| National Model 18103 |
National will have three units - the Model 690E, Model 9125E, and Model 18103
- on display at CONEXPO 2005. The company continues to dominate the boom truck
market, particularly in North America, and is looking to strengthen its
position with the introduction of new models.
Among the new models launched in recent months is the Model 690E which is
making its first public appearance at a major trade show. The unit is the
longest in the five model range of Series 600E cranes, which were introduced
in the middle of 2004. The 18 t (20 USt) rated machine has a four-section boom
capable of extending from 8.2 m to 27.4 m (24 ft to 80 ft), and is also
available with a two-section jib offering additional reach between 7.6 m and
13.7 m (25 ft and 45 ft). Maximum tip height for the crane, when fitted with
full jib is 44 m (144 ft).
The Model 9125E is a new model, the longest of a four model range of Series
900A cranes. It is a new long-boom version of the popular Model 9103A which
has been specially tailored for applications where additional reach is
required such as wireline support work in oilfields. The unit has a 38.1 m
(125 ft) boom versus the 31.3 m (103 ft) boom on the Model 9103A which allows
it to handle the increasingly large testing equipment needed for wireline
support work in high pressure oil wells.
Wireline support requires a long cylinder to be dropped into a live oil well
with a wire feed down the middle to record data on the well’s health and
performance. With higher pressure wells reaching over 41,000 kN/m2 (6,000 psi)
pressure, longer and larger cylinders are needed for wireline work, hence the
need for cranes with longer booms. In response to this demand from industry,
National has created the Model 9125E which has the longest boom in its
capacity class and is already attracting attention from a variety of end users.
“This crane has worldwide appeal,” says John Lukow, vice president of sales at
National Crane. “But we’re already finding large pockets of interest from
Texas, Wyoming and Utah in the US, while companies from as far as Mexico,
Canada, and South America have also been enquiring about the crane.”
The third unit on show from National is the Model 18103 from the Series 1800,
the largest crane range in the National product line. The Model 18103 has the
shortest boom in the Series 1800, at 31.4 m (103 ft), but an optional
two-section jib is available which offers an additional 16.8 m (55 ft) of
reach.
All the models at CONEXPO feature National advanced variable displacement
hydraulic system which is regarded as the smoothest on the market thanks to
its constant pressure control, providing flow where - and when - it is needed.
A Hydraulic Capacity Alert (HCA) system is also fitted as standard on all the
cranes, while self lubricating ‘easy glide’ wear pads help reduce boom
‘chatter’ and vibration.
Dozens of other features and benefits are included to ensure the cranes are
not only ahead of the competition in terms of performance, but also in terms
of ease of operation, maintenance, and life-cycle cost. This kind of attention
to detail is what enables National to maintain its market-leading position,
Lukow said.
“We continually strive to improve our products, and not only in terms of
lifting performance. Whether it’s tailoring a crane for a specific application
– as in the Model 9125E – or creating a whole new series of cranes – as in the
recently-launched Series 600E – we’re constantly talking to our customers and
studying the market to ensure we provide the best product and best service
available. Our market-leading position comes as a result of decades of hard
work and we know the only way to maintain that position is to work even harder
in future - and that’s exactly what we’ll do.”
