Potain Launches Igo Concept at South African Road-show
 |
| The Igo 50 |
Two South African Potain crane dealers, ETCS in Cape Town and SA French in
Johannesburg, joined together in a campaign to promote the Potain Igo
self-erecting crane concept, and achieved immediate success.
On its first demonstration in Cape Town, an Igo 32, the first Igo in South
Africa was sold to Neil Muller Construction, a prominent building and
construction contractor in the Western Cape. The unit was allowed to continue
its tour, starting with an Open Day at the premises of SA French in Spartan,
near Johannesburg, for a large group of invited customers. It continued to
Pretoria, Rustenburg, Nelspruit, and Durban. Finally, it called at Port
Elizabeth and George, before eventually returning to Cape Town for handover to
NMC and for operator training.
First deployment for the crane was on a site in Stellenbosch for work on a new
headquarters building for the British American Tobacco company. “From the high
level of interest shown, we are convinced that the time is right for the
acceptance of the self-erecting crane concept in a country where there is a
huge potential for building and infrastructure development,” said Paul Rogers,
Manitowoc Crane Group regional director in Africa.
