Manitowoc’s factory in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, US manufactures both the YardBoss and Shuttlelift cranes. The crane lines are sold through separate distribution channels. On display at CONEXPO 2008 from the Grove YardBoss line will be the YB4409-2, a 9 USt industrial crane. According to Tom McCallum, director of industrial crane sales for Manitowoc, this crane merges design benefits from two existing models. “The YB4409-2 crane fits between our 8.5 USt YB4409 and 10.5 USt YB4411 models,” he said. “Its design comes from the cost-effective chassis from the YB4409, joined with the upper portion of the YB4411. The result is a higher capacity, more functional crane.” The YB4409-2 offers a three-section 32’ –10” main boom and an optional, off-settable swingaway jib. With its boom and jib configuration of 51 ft, the YB4409-2 has an 8 ft reach advantage over other cranes in its class. It can lift its 9 USt maximum capacity through 360º and not only over the front. The crane also offers lower ground bearing pressure thanks to a 10% increase in outrigger pad area versus others in its class. A pivoting boom head allows for low-profile operation at boom angles above 5˚. With the boom at its maximum angle, the YB4409-2 offers dimensions from boom tip to the base of the hook opening of just 43 in. The YB4409-2 also offers a faster line speed and less tail swing than others in its class. The Shuttlelift 3339 is also a 9 USt capacity industrial crane. It features a full-power 32’-10” three-section boom and also has 360˚ continuous boom rotation. The crane is powered by a Cummins QSB 3.3L diesel engine that is turbo-charged with 99 hp. The Shuttlelift 3339’s wireless, load-sensing indicator system is battery powered, eliminating the potential for wire damage during operation. This system exceeds requirements for a load-sensing indicator on industrial cranes of this size, without the cost of a hard-wired system.
