The crane has a rating of 225 USt in the US, while for markets outside the US it has a 170 t rating and is designated GMK5170. It boasts the strongest load chart in the 200 – 230 USt class and also has the longest boom in its class at 210 ft. Andreas Cremer, regional product manager for Grove all-terrain cranes in the Americas, said the GMK5225 offered performance and productivity advantages. “Customers in the US and across the Americas are continually looking at ways to maximize work for their cranes. That ambition is built into the latest range of cranes, the GMK5225 in particular,” he said. “Of course they want strength and reach, but they also want a crane that is easy to move, easy to set-up and can cover a wide range of applications. We have built all of those considerations into the GMK5225.” The GMK5225 can achieve tip heights of up to 328 ft when working with jib extensions. It has axle spacings specifically designed for US market requirements. It also offers maximum on-site flexibility with a choice of four outrigger width settings. A Cummins engine is available as an option, although the machine at CONEXPO 2008 will feature the standard Mercedes engine. This choice of engines will appeal to crane owners in the US, as will the optimum on-road/off-road performance that comes from the engine combined with the Allison transmission and two-speed transfer case. Also featured on the GMK5225 is: Megatrak suspension, ECOS electronic control, all-wheel steer and TWIN-LOCK boom pinning.
