The crane has five axles and a maximum capacity of 115 USt in the US. Outside the US, it is designated GMK5095 with a rating of 100 t. Grove has a solid reputation in the five-axle class and this new crane is set to strengthen that position. David Birkhauser, senior vice president sales for Manitowoc, Americas, said the crane offers customers strength and flexibility. “The GMK5115 combines great reach with the strongest load chart in its class,” he said. “This crane is also about flexibility – whether it’s on site or on the road. The crane is perfectly suited to rental fleets and with Grove’s strong reputation in the five-axle class; we feel it is guaranteed success in the North American market.” The GMK5115 has a 197 ft seven-section main boom that features Grove’s patented MEGAFORM boom and TWIN-LOCK pinning system. Tip heights of up to 272 ft are available with the hydraulic luffing bi-fold swingaway that includes an 11 ft heavy-duty jib for more demanding lift duties. As with many Grove all-terrain cranes, users can operate the GMK5115 as either a ‘Taxi’ crane for mobility or a ‘Maxi’ crane for larger lifts. In ‘Taxi’ mode, the crane can travel in a variety of configurations depending on local roading requirements. The crane can be reduced to a gross vehicle weight of less than 106,000 lb which corresponds to less than 22,000 lb per axle. Other features on the GMK5115 include: MEGATRAK suspension, ECOS electronic control and all-wheel steer. The crane is equipped with Grove’s new carrier cab that launched in 2006 and has five outrigger settings for maximum flexibility on site. With its 197 ft boom, the GMK5115 is well suited to applications that require lifts over 164 ft ¬– and especially the erection of Potain tower cranes.
