Manitowoc Crane CARE highlights new initiatives at CONEXPO 2008

EnCORE and E-training are just two of the programs that Manitowoc Crane CARE will feature at CONEXPO 2008, March 11 – 15 in Las Vegas.

Manitowoc Crane CARE, Manitowoc’s customer support division, has a network of international office and dealer locations. These offer global access to parts, service, technical assistance and training for every Manitowoc, Grove, Potain and National Crane, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Larry Bryce, executive vice president of Manitowoc Crane CARE, said this dedication to customer support sets Manitowoc apart.

“We want to tell visitors at CONEXPO 2008 that Manitowoc Crane CARE is about much more than parts replacement and field service,” he said. “Our customers know they have the full support of Manitowoc behind them, not only to service their cranes, but to support their businesses and help them become more productive and profitable.”

An example of how Manitowoc Crane CARE helps with profitability is EnCORE, the rebuild, repair, remanufacture and exchange program. EnCORE helps customers extend the life of their Manitowoc products in the most appropriate and cost effective way, whether it’s a complete refurbishment of a crane or rebuild of a specific component. Finished products incorporate OEM parts, restoration to original engineering tolerances and complete testing.

EnCORE’s supplier partners currently offer programs for: the repair and return of hydraulic cylinders and turntable bearings; the upgrade of LMIs on certain products; and an exchange program for crawler crane torque converters. Keith Crider, director of EnCORE and sales for Manitowoc Crane CARE, says EnCORE helps provide the most cost effective replacement parts option to customers.

“By giving crane owners an ‘other-than-new’ part replacement option, Manitowoc Crane CARE is maximizing the value of the original investment,” he said. “And this will also help minimize lifetime operating costs.”

Manitowoc Crane CARE will also highlight a number of training modules at CONEXPO, offered through its online e-training program. Currently, there are courses available on basic mechanical systems, pneumatics, mobile hydraulics, mobile electrical systems and AC/DC drives and motors.

John Alexander, Manitowoc Crane CARE’s director of training and technical publications for the Americas, says these courses are an excellent starting point leading into specific training.

“These e-training courses are a cost effective way to build basic knowledge,” he said. “When students attend our full factory-level course with this basic knowledge, our trainers can focus more on teaching with actual cranes, test benches and simulators, rather than taking time to teach the basics.”
