Of the two cranes from the M series, one, the Igo MC 13, was making its trade show debut. This new crane is equipped with one trailer axle and can be towed at up to 25 km/h when carrying full counterweight, without exceeding 12 t on the axle. This optimum set-up makes the crane ideal for roading in numerous countries. The crane erects easily in less than 30 minutes, making it a perfect candidate for short-term jobs. Maximum capacity is 1.8 t and maximum jib is 22 m, at which radius the Igo MC 13 lifts 0.6 t. David Havard, Potain’s product manager for self-erecting cranes, says optimizing transport increases customer profitability. “Transportation continues to be one of the biggest influences for our customers when selecting their cranes,” he says. “Transportation costs obviously add to the price of a job, but the M series keep these costs to a minimum making these cranes suited to even very short-term jobs.” The other M series self-erector on show at bauma 2007 was the Igo MA 21, an existing crane that is already very popular in bauma’s home country of Germany. This crane has two axles and a maximum capacity of 1.8 t. Maximum jib length is 26 m and the crane can lift 700 kg at its jib end. Details of the new Igo 24 A, which launches later this year, were available to bauma 2007 visitors. The crane offers an additional 2 m of reach than its predecessor, with its maximum reach now 26 m. At this point it can lift 850 kg while its maximum available capacity is 2.4 t. As with other Igo self-erecting cranes, the Igo 24 A features Potain’s LVF Optima frequency-controlled hoisting. In this case, a 10 LVF 12 Optima hoist winch optimizes lifting speeds to the load on the hook, achieving speeds of up to 40 m/min.
