Other features include a 4.5 t counterweight, load moment, and anti-two block system. Also included are dual-axis electric joysticks and a new all-steel cab. A 40 US ton capacity crane, designated RT540E, is available from the MCG facility in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, US. Manitowoc Crane Group also used bauma 2007 to announce the launch of a new 27 t Grove rough-terrain crane. The crane will be designated the RT530E-2. There is also a European version of the crane which will be designated the RT530CE-2. The new crane boasts a sleeker, more modern cab, but improvements are far beyond cosmetic. Inside the cab, operators will appreciate the clean, automotive style control panel, where they can easily view gauges for all engine functions. Also new to the operator’s station are electronic dual axis joysticks that provide smoother control and improved comfort. According to Paul Cutchall, rough-terrain product specialist at Manitowoc Crane Group, the switch to electronic controls also helps reduce heat in the cab. “Because electronic controls require no hydraulics, no excess heat is brought into the cab through hydraulic lines,” he said. “This can be a problem in the hotter areas of the world when the crane is performing duty-cycle work.” The RT530E-2 also features a completely redesigned chassis, allowing for better stability. The chassis’ improved approach and departure angles provide more clearance over rough terrain, Cutchall says. “The new chassis design allows operators to travel over rough terrain with less likelihood of dragging over a high area or running the outrigger box or jack into the ground,” he said. “This is especially helpful when climbing a hill.” Crane functions on the RT530E-2 run through a new load-sensing hydraulic system driven by piston pumps. This allows for a more efficient hydraulic system by eliminating additional valving and reducing excess heat, which in turn helps extend hydraulic system component life. The Tier III 6.7L Cummins QSB engine provides plenty of power at the jobsite and also meets current emission standards in the US and Europe. The RT530E-2 is a 27 t capacity crane with a rectangular four-section power boom, which extends to 29 m. Maximum tip height is 31.2 m. With an optional 13.7 m telescopic swingaway extension, tip height increases to 44.5 m.
