Michael Preikschas, global product manager for the GTK1100, praised the new crane’s capabilities and popularity. “The market response to the GTK has been remarkable,” he said. “Its ability to lift at height, plus its ease of transport is exactly what the industry wants. Interest in the new crane is strong globally and we see solid potential for the GTK on a variety of sites.” The GTK1100’s patented design offers many benefits on jobs such as erecting wind turbines, or working on industrial or city center sites. The crane offers advantages when lifting at height or where set-up space is restricted. Another major benefit of the GTK is that it transports on a maximum of five trailers. This combination of advantages allows users to save time and money and maximize their return on investment. The GTK1100 consists of a wheeled carrier and a luffing telescopic boom, both connected by an 81 m, six-section telescopic mast. Four spreaders at the top of the mast attach to outriggers at the base to provide stability. Final specifications for the crane are pending, but provisional charts show the crane lifts loads of over 70 t to heights of more than120 m. Maximum lift height will be more than 140 m. Options being developed include a lifting beam to ease assembly of the boom and tower. Manitowoc Crane Group plans to show the GTK1100 at bauma 2007. The GTK’s provisional specifications are as follows:
